Description

The Best of Saint John Tour is a thoughtfully curated experience to explore one of New Brunswick’s most naturally beautiful cities. This small-group journey takes you through the city's heritage in a comfortable way in 3 hours.

The tour begins with your local guide picking you up from your downtown Saint John hotel in a luxury van and making the first stop at the Saint John City Market. This is Canada's oldest farmer market that has been a hub of local life since the 1870s. Here, you will explore the region's flavors and character through food stalls, fresh-baked pastries, and handmade crafts.

From there, your guide will take you on a narrated driving tour through the city passing by Rockwood Park (a tranquil green space in the center of Saint John), the historic Saint John Port, the lively Uptown area, and the Victorian-era King Square. You will peek into different chapters of Saint John’s history as you pass by Fort Howe, the Irving House, Red Rose Tea House, and City Gardens, offering.

The most memorable part of the tour is the stop at the Reversing Falls Rapids. This natural phenomenon occurs when the Saint John River meets the high, powerful tides of Bay of Fundy causing the river to reverse direction twice daily. Watching this "tug-of-war" of river and waves is scientifically fascinating and visually captivating.

Next, guests visit the Carleton Martello Tower. It's one of the few remaining Martello Towers in Canada that were built during the War of 1812 on a strategic high point. Along the tower, visitors can explore the surrounding grounds, Welcome Centre, and the lookout point, from where they can have panoramic views of Saint John and the Bay.

The last stop of the tour is at Fort La Tour, a National Historic Site that once served as a fortified fur trading post. This archaeological site tells the story of early French settlement and over 5,000 years of Indigenous trade on the land.

The tour concludes with your guide dropping you off back at your downtown Saint John accommodation. The best of Saint John tour is ideal for visitors who appreciate thoughtful storytelling, scenic views, and a deeper connection to place—all within a relaxed and accessible experience.

Cher is very knowledgeable about Saint John and its history. Unfortunately Martello Tower is closed for reconstruction. Would have liked more time at each stop, but then it would be an all day tour. Went back to them the next day.
