Luna Island

Luna Island is located in Niagara Falls State Park – the first state park in the USA established in 1885. This explains why the island is so named as on full moon night the rainbows that appear when moonlight falls on the mist from the falls. These are some of the true rainbows that can be observed and seen by Tourists since they are part of the natural world wonders that make Niagara Falls extraordinary and beautiful.

But then again, Luna Island is not as large as some areas of the park, though it’s actually the only place where you could get an excellent view of both the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. Its positioning therefore right between these falls offers a vantage view of the strength of the falls from a hardly viewed point.

If you are a lover of nature then you must take a visit to the Island at night, especially during a full moon day. The “lunar rainbows”- moonbows are a fantastic show that you can see only in this place. Infra-lang rainfall palls together with the moon and forms a rainbow type of arcs at night and this beauty is extremely a natural gift to behold.

Views of Horseshoe Falls:

While exploring Luna Island you will be predominantly viewing the American Falls and partially Bridal Veil Falls but, you can also see Horseshoe Falls from here as well, making it a complete tour of Niagara Falls.

Due to the location close to the flowing water, Luna Island is one of the exciting places, most enjoyable during the high flow times in spring and early summer. When from there one will be able to view the force of falling waters as it rush past making a thunderous sound all together with the mist forming a beautiful scenery.

Also, Luna Island is linked to the Cave of the Winds attraction. The Cave of the Winds is an adventure attraction, which allows people to go 125 feet to the base of Bridal Veil Falls using wooden steps. It is highly suggested, especially after or during a visit to Luna Island; good for those looking for more adventure and a bit of an up-and-personal with the powerful falls.
