Sieur de Monts Spring

You would love the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of this place. The gardens are gorgeous there with lush trees and the running spring water is very clear. If you’re into hiking, it’s a great place to be and the hike trails are not very challenging. You will also get to see the deer in that place. Just walk through the trees and you will come across wetlands. If you’re visiting in the fall, then you will experience the beautiful tree foliage with various colors of yellow, red, and orange in bloom. 

Another great thing about the Sieur de Monts is the Nature Center. It serves as a memorial to George Bucknam Dorr, known for his work toward the creation of Acadia National Park. George B. Dorr oversaw the beauty and potential of Mount Desert Island and the need for its conservation, hence the creation of Acadia National Park.

Whatever you see in Sieur de Monts, is explained really well in the Nature Center by Park Rangers. You will also get to know about the formation of mountains, the role of fire, the living beings of the ocean, and whatnot. It’s definitely worth a visit. 

From a short walk from there, you will get to see the Sieur de Monts Spring and Wild Gardens of Acadia. You can find the spring under the Spring Canopy, and it was built in the early 1900s. At the springhouse, you’ll find a nearby rock carved with the inscription “Sweet Waters of Acadia”. The Spring is open all year round and is located 2 miles south of Bar Harbor. 

Also, you won’t want to miss out on the Abbe Museum. A place representing the rich culture of Native Americans and their history. It has many educational programs and exhibitions for the sole purpose of preserving and celebrating the heritage of all four native communities in Maine. The 50,000 objects in the museum represent the 10,000 years of life of Native Americans in Maine. It’s a nonprofit institution dedicated to preserving the history of the Native Wabanaki in Maine.
