Sobre Shore Path
Bar Harbor’s Shore Path is a scenic waterfront walkway that follows the edge of Frenchman Bay from the Town Pier through one of the most picturesque parts of downtown. The historic path passes the Bar Harbor Inn, seaside estates, gardens, and rocky shoreline while offering beautiful views of the Porcupine Islands, Balance Rock, Egg Rock Lighthouse, and the surrounding coast.
✨ What to Know
The Shore Path has been part of Bar Harbor since the late 19th century and remains one of the town’s most popular walks. The mostly level route runs along private waterfront properties whose owners have allowed public access, so visitors should remain on the designated path and respect the surrounding homes and grounds.
The walk is peaceful and easy to explore at your own pace, with benches and viewpoints along the way. It is particularly popular with visitors looking for a scenic activity close to downtown without travelling into Acadia National Park.
📍 How to Get There
The Shore Path begins near the Town Pier beside Agamont Park in downtown Bar Harbor. From Main Street, walk toward the waterfront and continue past Agamont Park toward the Bar Harbor Inn, where the path follows the shoreline south along Frenchman Bay.
Visitors can park in downtown Bar Harbor and walk to the trail entrance. The path eventually reaches Wayman Lane, where you can turn back along the waterfront or follow local streets toward Main Street to create a longer walking loop through downtown.
📖 Best Time to Visit
The Shore Path can be enjoyed throughout the year, although late spring through fall offers the most comfortable walking conditions. Summer brings lush gardens and lively waterfront activity, while fall offers cooler temperatures and colourful foliage around Mount Desert Island.
Early morning is an especially beautiful time to visit, when the waterfront is quieter and sunrise light spreads across Frenchman Bay. Evening walks can also offer peaceful coastal views as activity around downtown begins to slow.
