History:

In 2008, the Austin City Council made a landmark decision to allocate funds for the creation of a breathtaking boardwalk along Lady Bird Lake. With the support of Austin voters in 2010 and 2012, who approved additional bond funding, and the generosity of donors coordinated by the Trail Conservancy (the Town Lake Trail Foundation), this project became a reality.

Construction began in October 2012 and by early June 2014, the $28 million Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake was officially open to the public. Boasting over 300 piers, 2,200 pre-cast concrete deck planks, and a stunning array of 13,000 LED lights, this boardwalk is truly a work of art.

With 1.3 million pounds of structural steel, 7 viewing sites, an ADA-accessible pier, and a brand-new trailhead washroom, this 7,250-foot boardwalk is both functional and beautiful. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this breathtaking boardwalk is a must-see destination that's sure to take your breath away!
