The mural was originally painted in 1997 and restored in 2013. When Todd Sanders purchased the building for his neon studio, artists Rory Skagen and Bill Brakhage had just moved in across the street, at the time their team was called Skagen-Brakhage.

The mural was originally painted in 1997 and restored in 2013. When Todd Sanders purchased the building for his neon studio, artists Rory Skagen and Bill Brakhage had just moved in across the street, at the time their team was called Skagen-Brakhage. Their building already had a Cesar Chavez mural on it, so they asked Sanders if he would consider letting them paint a mural on his. The mural was meant to celebrate Austin and promote the pair’s murals, and has now become an iconic landmark destination in the city.
