On April 10, 2008, Austin City Council made a historic decision to honor the musical legacy of Doug Sahm by renaming the iconic Spiral Hill in Butler Metro Park to "Doug Sahm Hill." This change symbolizes Austin's deep appreciation for the late musician and his impact on the music scene and serves as a lasting tribute to his memory.

Perched atop the highest point of the park, the 35-foot hill offers a breathtaking 360° view of Austin's stunning skyline. With its spiraling path, it has become a popular spot for visitors to admire the panoramic views of the city and reflect on its rich cultural heritage.
