What to Know
The Hammond-Harwood House is an exquisite historic mansion located in Annapolis, Maryland. Built in 1774, it stands as a prime example of Palladian architecture in America. The architect William Buckland designed the Hammond-Harwood House for Matthias Hammond, a wealthy farmer. In 1960, the Hammond-Harwood House was officially designated as a National Historic Landmark due to its historical significance. The house is renowned for its well-preserved interiors, including intricate woodwork, furniture, and an impressive art collection.
Matthias Hammond, the original owner, never lived in the house, which changed owners until it was sold to St. John's College in 1926. The college used it for educational purposes before selling it to the Hammond-Harwood House Association in 1940.
How to Get There
The Hammond-Harwood House is situated at 19 Maryland Avenue in Annapolis, Maryland. It's conveniently accessible if you're in Annapolis. You can drive to the location and find parking on the street near the destination. Alternatively, you can utilize ride-sharing services such as Uber. In my opinion, the optimal way to visit the Hammond-Harwood House is by booking a guided tour.
Best Time to Visit
The Hammond-Harwood House welcomes visitors from April to December, with visiting hours from 12 pm to 5 pm. You are free to select a time that aligns with your preferences. While both the shoulder seasons and summer offer unique experiences, summer tends to be the peak season.
